John Osgood Bio
John Osgood, urban contemporary artist from Seattle, WA has been
working in an array of mediums over the last eleven years. John
grew up in Edmonds, WA and ever since childhood, he was always
illustrating - mostly with pen and ink. It wasn't until college
when his passion for drawing shifted into another gear -
painting. Shortly after switching mediums, he attracted
interested buyers from his friends and family, which further
encouraged him to continue painting. After college, he focused
all his efforts on creating a body of work and started his quest
for showing his work to the public.
John's art is inspired by street art and graffiti as well as
Picasso's cubist period, Basquiat and Pollock. He enjoys working
with a vibrant color pallet, mostly focuses on acrylics, and
spray paints for his most recent work.
In 2006, John and his wife, Michele, started Bherd Studios.
Conceptually, Bherd Studios is a working studio for John and a gallery space for Pacific NW
emerging
urban contemporary artists.
Artist Statement
I paint to express human emotion
whether it is humorous, depressing or inspiring. I am very
process oriented: I throw, drip, block and layer paint. I never
know what I am going to get when I begin– I am always waiting to
see what is forming before I decide to refine the painting. I
may turn the painting from side to side multiple times before I
can see the next step. I use vibrant contrasting color palettes
to illicit a “pop” factor. I believe that colors pull people
into my paintings and I often juxtapose bright vivid color with
depressing emotions to provide balance and to surprise the
viewer.
